Fix Name Spelling Errors on 9th Class Board DMC

First check what kind of mistake it is

There is an important difference between a spelling correction and a name change.

A minor error such as one or two incorrect letters is normally handled as a correction when the supporting record establishes the correct spelling. BISE Multan’s published rules, for example, specifically provide for correction of a father’s-name spelling mistake where there is no substantial change, subject to the Board’s record, application and prescribed fee. The same rules distinguish this from a substantive name change.

So before submitting anything, compare the DMC with the student’s reliable identity and school records. Check the spelling in both English and Urdu where applicable.

The formal correction procedure

1. Identify the concerned BISE.
The correction must be handled by the board holding the student’s SSC record. Punjab’s boards operate under the Punjab Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education framework, so the procedure is administered by the relevant board rather than by the result-checking website.

2. Obtain the board’s current correction form.
Do not use an old form downloaded from a random website. BISE Lahore currently publishes separate forms for student-name correction, father’s-name correction, CNIC/name correction and corrections based on the registration return.

3. Prepare evidence showing the correct particulars.
The exact evidence depends on the board and the nature of the correction. BISE Rawalpindi’s current correction form, for example, asks for documentary evidence including a birth record, school admission/withdrawal register, result card and B-Form, with originals required for the relevant meeting.

This is why there is no single document list that should be presented as mandatory for every Punjab board.

4. Pay the applicable correction fee.
Fees vary by board, correction type and, in some cases, the period since passing. BISE Lahore’s current challan system separately lists spelling correction in a name/father’s name and different categories based on the time elapsed after passing SSC/Intermediate.

5. Submit the application through the prescribed board channel.
Some boards provide electronic services. BISE Lahore currently offers online name and father’s-name correction services and requires the applicant to attend with original documents for an interview in its e-correction process. Other boards may require a prescribed form and supporting documents through their own procedure.

6. Wait for board verification and decision.
The board checks the evidence against its record. Under BISE Multan’s rules, correction cases can be processed through a committee, with the Chairman involved in the final decision.

Once the correction is approved, the board can issue the applicable corrected/revised academic document after the prescribed fee and formalities are completed.

What if the error is in the father’s name?

A father’s-name spelling mistake should be treated separately from a complete change of father’s identity. Where the change is substantial or based on a legal order, additional requirements can apply. BISE Multan’s rules specifically refer to Civil Court orders for certain father’s-name changes, while ordinary spelling corrections follow a different route.

For that reason, do not submit a court decree, newspaper notice, affidavit or other document simply because another website lists it. Use the current requirements of your own BISE and the specific type of correction.

Before you submit

Check these four things:

• The correct spelling is consistent across your supporting records.
• You have selected the correct BISE and current correction form.
• Your fee/challan matches the board’s current schedule.
• You have kept copies of everything submitted.
